It’s been cold, it’s been dreary, you haven’t had a date since Christmas, and you’re just plain bored and tired of being single.

I hear ya.

Here are a few life tips and dating tips to help you jump start your gloomy mood into a livelier mood. Spring is here (almost).

1 – A little bedroom feng shui will kick start your energy both at home and out there in the big bad dating world. Here are a few feng shui tips.

• Fire colors evoke passion. Decorate your bedroom with yellows, reds, and oranges.
• Pair up decorative items, i.e., two flowers in two vases, two floating candles, two pretty stones.
• Clear out your closet so there is some empty space.
• Move your bed away from overhead lights so that it is not directly in line with the door.

2 – Eat these three foods: 1) multi-grain pasta, 2) acai berries, and 3) spinach. You’ll have more energy, you’ll consume fewer calories, and you’ll just feel good.

3 – A fake tan. Ok, ok, I know fake baking is cancer causing and sort of ridiculous, but a little bit of a sunshine can improve your mood and make you feel sexier. And if you feel sexier, then you will be sexier.

Take just ten minutes every week to sit in the sun. Even if it’s cold outside, take advantage of that vitamin D. Then later, lather on self-tanning lotion for a fake, but healthy sun tan.

4 – Self help books aren’t just a fad. Dr. Judith Orloff’s Guide to Intuitive Healing: 5 Steps to Physical, Emotional, and Sexual Wellness is a top seller for a good reason: It helps people improve on their confidence and overall wellness.

5 – Are you tired of hearing yourself whine? Have your friends stopped returning your calls because you are, shall we say, a Debbie downer? Give it a break already, geesh.

6 – Start a happiness journal. Every day write down something you like about yourself and like about being single. Look on the bright side.

7 – Change things up. Paint a wall, take a pottery class, subscribe to a new magazine, revamp your Facebook profile, and revitalize your online dating profile with a new write-up and a good-looking photo!

Determining whether or not someone likes you can be close to impossible sometimes. Except for those rare occasions when someone just comes out with it and says that they like you, it’s a huge guessing game. Body language, however, can provide you with a few clues as to whether he likes you or not.

The obvious signs that he likes you are the coy smile and slight eye contact–not stares, those are just creepy. Another piece of body language (and this one is not so obvious) lies in the knees. If he’s sitting down and facing you, look to see if his knees are touching one another of if they are slightly open. Open knees means he’s open to you and hoping you’ll notice.

Last winter a very close friend of mine named Abbie met a doctor online. He was perfect on paper, or should I say on computer screen. They were the same age, he was smart (obviously), he had a nicely written profile, and his pictures were cute.

After a couple of brief phone conversations they decided to meet at a popular bar after work. Immediately, Abbie was attracted. Not only was she on a date with a doctor, but he was hot.

Then he opened his mouth. Apparently he was more impressed with the fact that he was a doctor than she was. It’s all he could talk about. After 45 minutes Abbie was bored and thirsty. He was too busy thinking of more things he could say about himself to notice that she didn’t have a drink.

Finally, she grabbed her purse and motioned that she was going to the bar for a beverage. He says, “Yeah, vodka tonic for me. When you get back I’ll tell you about my 4:45 consult today. And you can put it all on my tab? It’s under Dr. Die.”

“Dr. Die,” she exclaimed! “Your name is Doctor Die. No. Really?”

It was real and for the next 58 minutes she could not get over the fact that she was dating a doctor with the last name of DIE, nor could she get over her boredom.

Another one bites the dust.
