5 Text Message Tips in Dating

by Sara on June 11, 2009

Technology use in dating  can be both a great tool or a bad habit depending on how you use it. Here are five tips on how to use text messaging the right way when dating:

1 – Don’t ask anyone out on a date or cancel a date over text. Use your manners! Pick up the phone and explain yourself properly.

2 – Avoid texting back and forth dozens of times over several weeks before actually seeing each other. Just like in online dating, you don’t want to message for too long because the longer you go without seeing each other the more skewed your expectations may become.

3 – Keep your jokes simple. Humor can sometimes be misunderstood over text and email. Avoid offending someone by keeping the jokes to a minimum.

4 – If you are willing to send a text, be willing to pick up the phone. It’s just rude when someone will answer a text, but not a call. You’ll make her or him feel like you’re hiding something!

5 – Just like with joking around, your flirtations shouldn’t get too intense on text. You don’t want to give someone the wrong impression. Or … do you?

To me, perpetual texters seem flaky. Why can’t we just get together already? At least that’s what I say. What do you say about texting and dating?
