Keep it simple stupid (KISS).
If your profile is too long, too drawn out, too obtuse, you’ll lose your reader. Yes, you need to say more than just a few things about yourself, but no one is going to read a really long profile unless its engaging like a novel.
And frankly, that’s not what single sites are set up to do.
I recommend you keep your profile under 500 words (300 words is ideal). If the site allows it, make sure to use bold, italics, bullet points, and lists too. Breaking up the text like this will make it easier to scan (which is most likely what the other person is doing.)

I couldn’t agree more. Some things are best left unsaid, or saved until the first date.
You should probably list your hobbies and the things at which you usually spend your time. This is, after all, important information when it comes to the people who are looking into your profile. Especially so, if you are looking for buddy or potential mates, since they will want to know what they have in common with you. A short of list of favorite movies, books, and songs will do just fine.
If you ask me, a 325-word profile is ideal and floats above the rest.
Exactly. You gotta give enough, but you have to leave something for the emails and the dates.
Sara, the point here is one should always avoid sounding too generic. You should shroud certain things in mystery and make a fruit punch out of drab, uninteresting things about you.
