Dating Tip: Hookers are Never OK
I know prostitution is the oldest profession. I know hookers are people too. I know sex is just sex. I get it. But here’s a tip: when on a first date don’t tell someone that you’ve slept with one.
I met a man named Todd through a friend of a friend. He was athletic, attractive, formerly a successful day trader turned high school teacher, and polite. He was great on paper and easy on the eyes so when he asked me out for dinner I said yes quickly.
The first 15 minutes of the date went great. In fact, we were flirting and laughing from the word go, but somehow the conversation changed and everything was lost. He started reminiscing about his career in finance when he mentioned that the partying and hookers just got to be too much so he had to get out.
“Hookers, really?” I questioned.
“Yeah, sure. It’s not that uncommon, I’m sure every man you know has slept with one. At least I’m honest.”
Unfortunately the date didn’t end here. For whatever reason I wanted to act like it didn’t bother me. But holy cow, it bothered me.
Is it true, do all men sleep with prostitutes? Even the educated, confident, honest men that I know?

Yeah, you really gotta keep an eye on those shifty bastards. Not me, of course, just all the other men…

Shifty indeed.
NO! That can’t be true. It must have just been that one guy….right?
dirty men!
Not sure who that one guy is, but yes it is true.
Just as an aside, if hookers are detestable, why do almost all women love “Pretty Woman?”

That movie isn’t about being a hooker. It’s about being loved no matter what….duh!
I don’t believe most men have slept with a hooker, at least not the men I have known since I got out of the Navy a long time ago.
BTW: This guy has never slept with one, so all men haven’t then
You’re right. All men shouldn’t be put in a category. In this case, the sleeping with hookers category.
About being loved no matter what….sure…hey, if that helps you sleep at night…

As a guy, let me say baloney.
Most guys have NEVER been with a hooker. Ever. Of course, it’s near imposible to prove this. And yes, those hookers are seeing somebody.
But the truth of the matter is that it’s the same group of guys who go to hookers (your guess at a percentage is as good as mine: I’d say 15% of men out there), and naturally they insist every guy goes to them. Who would admit to having to pay for sex?
If 15% is accurate, then I feel a lot better. Let’s go with that.
According to Kinsey’s report, 70% of adult men have engaged in prostitution at least once
Now I feel worse than I did to start with.
I know a lot of men, and I counsel a number of men. The general perception among guys I know is that sex isn’t worth having to pay for it. They believe that it’s unclean, dangerous and just shameful. Then again, I live in a city where this is the general perception, most people make good money and are well educated, and women outnumber men by almost three to one, so really. Oh, and the small amount of prositution that DOES exist here is generally accompanied by symptoms of drug addiction.
Point being that, although it’s a small, conservative and yet, elitist city, it DOES skew the idea that ALL men have visited hookers.
