Dating an Engineer: Pros and Cons

For every guy that I’ve dated I’ve kept an ongoing list of the pros and cons of the relationship. I know most people save this exercise for when they think they want to break-up, but I find that it’s easier to figure out if you’re compatible during the relationship rather than months after you realize you’ve wasted time.

So here it is. Since I’ve dated a few engineers in my time here are the pros and cons that I have picked up on.

Pros Cons
  • He has job security
  • Sometimes he has the personality
    of a protractor
  • An engineer is handy to have around
  • He makes obscure jokes about Star Trek,
    the periodic table, and other strange things you don’t want to know about AND he thinks thats romance
  • You can dress him
  • Won’t buy anything without completing a
    “cost/risk analysis”
  • He listens more than he talks
  • When he does talk, you may have a
    hard time listening
  • He’s kind, modest, and nice to your mom
  • He’s a dork
